Pictures and memory

I was printing some pictures of our dear friend Clare Wise today and was struck by the power of photographs to capture the essence of someone. Clare was an extraordinary woman with great spirit and a smile that always made the world feel a better place. We were just fooling around when we took these pictures. She was trying on 'cancer hats' - the odd selection of headwear that is available to women who are about to lose their hair as a result of chemotherapy. But now that she's gone this pictures and the others from that day have acquired a significance that is both heartbreaking and celebratory. Wonderful woman, RIP.
